Kevin Smith: Day 3 of the 30 day challenge.

I just listened to a Kevin Smith podcast and felt like talking about him. For you, who think I am talking about the football player, you are wrong. I am talking about the actor/director/Show host/ comic book writer/author/ podcaster Kevin Smith. Yea, that guy.

A friend introduced me to Kevin’s work. He bought Kevin’s third movie, Chasing Amy and had it playing when I stopped by to hang out. I wasn’t familiar with any of Kev’s work prior to this but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an easy to make film that reminded me of horror shorts that we made when we were younger. He informed me about other films that were apart of the New Jersey line that all had all the same characters. I eventually saw Mallrats and Clerks and became a follower.

I’ve seen his last few films after that in theatres, starting with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, then Clerks 2, which closed off the New Jersey fictional group. Kevin went on to make Jersey Girl, Cop Out for a studio, and made his own release, Red State, which took an artistic turn from his familiar genre, which I felt he nailed it.

Smith is currently running around with New Jersey Chronicle stars recording podcasts and doing TV. He owns a network called SModCo. There nests over 10 different podcasts and has a YouTube channel called SModCo Internet Television or S.I.T. I am familiar with both of these and a huge fan. Some of the Stars have there own television show called comic book man, that airs right after a comic-based television show, The Walking Dead. It’s about time we can watch a show based on the Zombie Apocalypse on a weekly basis. And now we have an actually comic show after words. If you are into comics, I recommend this show. I have discovered that some old comics I randomly picked up at a secondhand shop for a few cents to a dollar was worth fifty bucks to them. I really didn’t believe it at first and couldn’t find anyone who sells them cheaper.

Part 2 next time!

Hobbys of Sorts.. (Day 2 of the 30 day challenge)

A hobby of sorts…

I had a ton of hobby’s growing up. Mostly involved collecting. As a child, I can recall having a cigar box filled with used stamps. They had all sorts of pictures and were very interesting to me. I also had a large baseball card collection, which I continue to drag around with me throughout all my moves. I also recently gave up collecting comic books. I had a ton of them and majority of them, I’ve only read once.

My newfound hobby was autograph collecting. I always browsed helpful forums containing information about upcoming celebrity signings. I love collecting from the people who inspired me to be the guy I am today. They either taught me something I will never forget or did something I had admire. I begin getting certain comics or books signed my favorite authors or CDs signed by my favorite artists. I have admittedly confronted several of these guys in public, but having the respect and even sometimes star stuck would strongly prevent me from approaching them. I often run into these celebrities at my place of work. Brandy rapped at me once. Yes, she did. I got to talk to Nascar driving Danica Patrick about online radio. I masked my excitement well.

I haven’t chased after any autographs in a while. I did start collecting the entire 2010 Chicago Blackhawks for my daughter due to her birthday falling on the same day as the victory of the Stanley Cup. I waited many hours in all sorts of lines waiting for their signatures and even tried catching some at public events. I even donated blood a few times in hopes to catch a couple. I begin to build my daughter a scrapbook that has a bunch of cut outs and pictures. I think the most memorable thing in that collection was her picture with the Stanley Cup. We went to the Gay Pride Parade, hearing about its appearance at on a float. We ended up taking a quick pic with it, as it was being place in a limo. My daughter was just a couple of months old so she was petite compared to that cup. Several Hawk players were really generous on responding to my request for autographs for her collection as well. That was an idea given to me by a friend when I realize some players were traded to far off teams.

Halloween -Day 1 of the 30 day challenge.

It’s the first day of October and this is the month of horror.  Well, it seems to be a catholicon. This holiday spawned movies and even rituals that we don’t really follow all the way through. Of course, a holiday that was from the sixteenth century would be lightly modified, but I think it would be more interesting if we kept the same old Halloween ritual.

Let’s take Jack-o’-lanterns for example, they were originally were cravings made for the remembrance of the souls lost in purgatory. It would give a good reason to crave pumpkins and more of a reason to put them out and not stress too much of the mess they make a month later if we felt it was more for someone else and not ourselves.

How about Trick or Treating. It now seems like an empty threat. It sort of had us begging for treats or we making threats of tricks. I take my kids trick or treating and never even thought of taking advantage of an unanswered door. As Positive, I try to stay, my kids aren’t so kind, so I could image the damage they could cause. I enjoy getting free things, especially food. I can still recall moments in my life of walking to my day job, dressed as an employee for my employer and still able to ring door bells and get away with a couple of goodies.

Help the Homeless?

What is up with homeless people? I don’t mean to talk crap about the less fortunate but sometimes they can be serious douchebags. I do have a good heart. I also have the best intentions when dealing with serious interactions from such. I know it can be hard to live in this world when national debt is $16 trillion and even harder when you don’t have a job or enough income to supply the debt.

I have come across this homeless dude who stopped me at the worse time possible. I was on the way to meet a girl at the local train stop close to home. I didn’t have any money since I wasn’t planning to be away from home for long.  He was an elderly African American and used a cane to get around. He kindly asks for a dollar. I replied, “I am sorry, sir, I don’t have anything on me at the moment”. I don’t know what has gotten into him, but he quickly responded with, “I bet if I was white, you would have a dollar”. I lost it. I turned it back around as the smartass me would’ve. “I bet if I was black, you probably wouldn’t have asked”. He looked at me with such a sour face and carried on. I also came across a guy, stating he was homeless while he had his daughter with him. He asked for seventy-five cents, so he could get on the next train to his moms. I, being a dad, knew how hard that could be, quickly offered him the seventy-five cents. Not even steps away, I hear him ask the next traveler for the same amount of change. I guess I grew into this distrust with the homeless. I once witness a homeless answer his cell phone in the mitts of catching change from a friendly fellow. I also over heard a homeless blaming the lack of change was due to school starting again. As if it was a problem to them.

I did have my share of helping the homeless as well. My neighborhood Dunkin’ Donuts had a guy that goes by the name of Smiley. He asked for change and I was having a good day but no cash, offered him lunch instead and as a homeless person should act on a free meal, he took it. I let him order whatever he wanted from McDonald’s as it was better than Dunkin Donuts. Smiley got a value meal and sat at a table and enjoyed it. He didn’t continue to ask for change, he didn’t over order. He order enough to suffice at the moment.  He was happy.

I know that they had a hard life and don’t get me wrong, I respect that they are trying oppose being dumped on. But learn to love life and respect both those who can afford you and those who can’t, because you will never know if their roles will switch. Not everyone has a bad heart or should be effected by someone’s bad day.

Stupid Cupid Tricks: The One That Got Away

Everyone went through that high school crush. Even, if you went to an all boy or an all girl school. You just had that someone that you could not get out of your mind and you were stuck watching him or her spend his or her finer years with someone else. Whether if you were an obsess nut or a closet crusher, you had someone and it is a natural human thing. The only thing to do is to prove that you are worth their time.

Juliet was the quiet girl in the class. She was always around her friend who would always start the conversation and ended it as well. Juliet was your girl next store cutie. I unfortunately got to become her go-to-guy who was only there to listen. I know many others had been stuck in this same situation and called it the “friend zone”. I eventually got to personally hang out with Juliet and dragged her to random places such as to bad movies and to school and such. Juliet continued to date the same guy. This guy was portrayed as your top of the line douchebag. He was always jealous, always fighting, and occasionally cheating. I always hoped to save her from that life. Until one day I finally did.

A couple of years after high school, I took Juliet out to a bad movie. It was so bad, I tried to recall what it was and ended up staring at the computer screen for about ten minutes before finally giving up. We went back to her house and sat on her porch. The sun was out and the weather was beautiful. Everything was going so well. Even my confidence was at an all time high, which would explain my next action. I kissed her. She was obviously nervous at first but quickly gave in. The first week was the greatest thing out of our friendship. We were inseparable.

One day, I took her back to my parent’s place where we would make out hours on in which eventually, things got hot and heavy for us. Then she said something that completely caught me off guard.

“I have never had sex with a guy before. “ Juliet starts.

“Wait, you have been with dude all this time and he has never made a move?” I had to ask.

“Well there’s something I have to tell you. He is actually a she.” Juliet confesses.

Obviously, things grew weird between us, but it didn’t stop us from hanging out. As a matter of fact, it sort of went like this.

We ended up going to our local pizza joint. As we were sitting at the window-barstool section, staring out into the busy city from our seats.

“She’s hot.” Juliet says.

“Yes, she is.” I agree.  “So what do you look for in a girl’s feature? Is it the same as guys?”

“Well, girls either have one of two things going for them. They either have big boobs or a big butt.” She begins explaining a woman’s anatomy to me.

“I don’t really judge by that. That’s lust. What’s the point? It’s the same Vagina?” I respond.

“Eww, don’t say vagina.” She says.

“Why not?” I ask.

“It doesn’t roll off the tongue like ‘pussy’ does.” She says.

“So you like saying pussy more than Vagina? Don’t you think that sounds a bit vulgar?”

“Nope, I think it’s more hot.” She defends her opinion.

I guess my-one was sort of different.
